So for those of you who are not sure, here are examples:

  • if you’re advertising your business without being invited
  • if you’re post links to your site on other peoples profiles without permission or invitation to do so
  • if you’re adding people to your list management system stripping emails from Facebook profiles
  • if you’re posting stuff people did not request

you’re spamming.

If you’ve read my earlier posts from 7 Sins of Facebook series, in 7 Sins Of Facebook Part 2 of 7, I talked in quite a few details about building relationships.

But here, today, I wanted to share with you what exactly should you post, how often, and where you can get a good content so you can nurture those relationships.

If you can help someone solve a problem, if you can inspire someone, if you can point them towards a useful resource, if you can make someone laugh, if you can keep them posted about news relevant to their business/interest…you’re going to build some good relationships.

Everybody is looking for help, inspiration, and entertainment. It’s up to you to find the type of content that does that and that your target market can relate to.

I’m going to use my social media model for example. I work a lot with network marketers and local businesses using social media. So if there is news about Facebook adding a feature, my target market would like to know that and benefit from that. If I come across an inspiring quote, or a funny video that relates I’ll share.

Great places to find your content are:

  • your own blog
  • other successful blogs
  • youtube
  • digg.com
  • alltop.com
  • stufftotweet.com
  • or any other credible source of good articles, videos, blog posts relating to your niche

You can always Google keywords relating to your niche and target market and see what you come up.

I would suggest to post the content that has already been tagged as a good content by the readers, ie # of diggs, number of retweets, posts on Facebook etc….

Gage you audience of responses, track the feedback, track the time you’re posting, track the frequency, and track the source of content. Do that for couple of weeks and you’ll have a pretty good pulse on your friends/fans/followers audience.

Now, that you’re in their head, it’s time to make a plan to stay there…

Did I miss any great resources for content? Feel free to share…
