In this 7 part series of 7 Sins of Facebook, we covered everything from setting up your Facebook presence correctly and connecting with other people, to targeting your market and building profitable relationships.
So now that’s all setup and running, what could possibly go wrong?
Well…actually a few things that tend to show up sooner or later:
Overwhelmed
As you grow in your social media presence, there is a chance you might get to a point where you feel overwhelmed. Especially if marketing itself is not your primary thing: ie, you’re a realtor and only do marketing to bring in new leads, but being a realtor is your primary thing. It’s not unusual for people in those situations to get suddenly overwhelmed, and tend to just drop the Facebook strategy all together – bad idea, but I see it all the time. Now, what I have seen works well in combating that issue is having a blueprint with tasks mapped out and scheduled for certain days of the week and time frames. Many times there are additional tools that can be used to streamline lot of the work and help cut the time needed for upkeep.
Sporadic updates
The rule says: if you can’t do it regularly, it’s better not to do it at all. The results won’t be there, the audience will quickly learn it’s not something they can rely on, and so if you do it sporadically it really turns out to be a big waste of your time. Then it’s better to use that time for something else.
Your page disappears – for good
Yes, it does happen and let me tell you, it majorly sucks. It happened to me and it happens to other top marketers as well. The trick is to one, not get upset and dwell over it knowing it comes with the territory. And two, to have strategies in place daily that will be moving your fans/friends/followers from the social media platform onto your list. So if and when Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or whoever decides to play with your heart and your wallet, it won’t be THAT big of a deal.
Negative Nancy
Once in a blue moon, as it happens in any crowd, you will run into a smartass. If you don’t like my writing, what I say, or what I do on MY Facebook…I can understand that. Not everybody likes when I say things as they are. Just unfollow me and don’t worry your little head about it. But if you come to my page and start being all negative and ruining the atmosphere for everybody else, that I consider down right big time rude. I often get asked is it better to ignore and leave the negative comments on there to start up a conversation or to delete? Couple of times I tried being supportive and understanding of other people’s views…and they just kept on and on…so I deleted them and blocked them. Now they can argue with themselves in the mirror. Unlike on your blog, Facebook immediately removes all updates entered on your site by the person you block for nothing stays behind. The third and the last time it happened for me (in all 3 years) I did not waste a second of my time. I immediately deleted and blocked that person. I don’t have time nor patience for no-good-negative-Nancy’s of this world, and I suggest you should not either. In the end it’s your call, but don’t much value in keeping them around or trying to make them happy. Use that time keeping yourself happy.
Any of these happened to you yet?
